Pastor's Journey
During my childhood days, growing up in a little town named Camilla, Georgia, I remember that, I went to Sunday school and church. My family love the church, Beulah Baptist. Rev. Grady Pinkney was the Pastor that I remember the most. I have always been connected to the church.
Growing up down south, during revivals a person had to sit on the mourner's bench, until they were ready to join church. Soon I finally join church, with a group of my friends. That Friday night we were baptized. Many of the people said that I shouted when they took me under the water, but I was shouting for help, because I thought they were going to drown me!
As I grew up in church, many people would tell me often that one day I would be a preacher. I wanted to be a singer! I led many songs with the choirs both Youth and Adult. My favorite song was entitled "Whisper a Prayer", many people loved that song.
I remember going to the nursing home where my great grandmother lived, and She would ask me to sing; At first I was afraid, then one day I remember singing and I closed my eyes, and when I finished, it seemed as if everyone in the nursing home was in the hall listening to me sing. I believe that singing in the nursing home, for "Big Mama" is still why God is blessing me today.
After graduating from high school and joining the military, I found my self in Germany and then Enid, Oklahoma. It is in Enid, that I answered the call to preach. I begin preaching in 1978 at New Light Baptist Church, the Pastor was Rev. Billy Mucker. The Lord has allowed me to preach for many Pastors who had great influence on my life, just a few....Rev. Loran Jones, Dr. Maceo McDaniels, Rev. Grady Pinkney, and Rev. Curtis Reece.
For eight years of my ministry, I took care of a small church in Crescent, Okla. Mt Pleasant Baptist Church. I will always feel blessed in my heart for the opportunity I received in Crescent. I would preach most of the time to less than seven people, but the spirit of the Lord would always meet us there. I believe that they all have passed away, but they remain in my heart.
The first church I pastored was Mt Olive Baptist Church, Newkirk, Okla. I was there 2 years. It was a small congregation of about 12 people. We had some wonderful times and God really blessed me there. I shall never forget the kindness of the Roland family, Sis Battum, Deacon Brown, and Sis Mittie Gunn, who lived to be over 100 years of age, before She passed away.
I came to Grayson in 1989, and I am enjoying pastoring at this church. Grayson has grown tremendously, in teaching, preaching, and praying. I thank God daily for how he keeps blessing us! If You visit our city, please come and worship with us, We worship in the spirit of the Lord! God Bless!!!
